Welcome to Hope Hill

Welcome to Hope Hill, my family's home since 2011! Hope Hill is nestled in a tall grove of palms and other native trees and sits at the high point in Lyford Cay, Nassau, The Bahamas.

Hope Hill is a very happy house designed with my love for entertaining and joyful living in mind.

With intent, the house has been crafted to be elegant and old-fashioned while at the same time seriously relaxed and cheerful. It is a place where endless parties and celebrations happen and memories have been made and will be made.

All design needs to have charm and joy. At Hope Hill, this is accomplished with all the small courtesies a guest might enjoy. Comfy seating, soft lighting, and candlelight. Cold drinks and an always stocked and inviting bar are at the ready. There is a feeling of abundance and generosity.

There is a world of relaxed sophistication and the Caribbean living fully in effect at Hope Hill.

Blending indoor and outdoor living was the most important task when designing Hope Hill in 2010 after we purchased the house and began her re-design. Hope Hill sits high atop Lyford Cay and has breathtaking views of turquoise waters and sits in her own very lush and tropical grove. Hope Hill's interiors combine British colonial influences, and island idioms to create a unique sense of place and history.

I loved creating and assembling this interior which is layered with a collection of dozens of watercolors of the Bahamas ranging from 1860 to 1960 collected over 30 years.

When assembling the interior of Hope Hill I started with fantastic English upholstery. A lush long down filled vintage sofa found in a junk shop in Florida but of the highest quality grounds in the living room. Club chairs of a similar comfort imported from the UK add more soft seating. Most of the other pieces were other junk shop finds and eBay treasures. They were lovingly recovered in hand-screened fabrics from Quadrille and China Seas.

When we have house guests at Hope Hill, which is very often, we want the guests to be dazzled when they arrive.

Hope Hill's guest rooms are another place where I concentrated on the comfort of my guests. We make beds that are ironed to crispy perfection. We have the doors to the verandas in these rooms wide open with the fronds from palms at arm's reach, dappling sunshine and creating a truly magical dance with the turquoise sea in the distance beyond.

Our guest rooms are layered with all the courtesies a guest might need. Wonderful bathrobes and toiletries; scented candles and lovely books to read; note cards and pens. The closets are spacious with beautiful matching hangers. Reading lights are tucked in the crispy eyelet bed hangings on the four poster beds.

Thank you for joining me on this tour of my beloved family home, Hope Hill. I truly hope you have enjoyed it and can’t wait to share more moments with you in the future!

Cheers,

Amanda
